Caravita, a specialist in tailor-made parasols and sun sails

Close cooperation with specialised sun shading system retailers

Caravita GmbH specialises in custom-made parasols and sun sails. Since 2017, the independent brand Caravita has been part of the WAREMA Group, which is developing and creating its own high-quality Outdoor Living portfolio. The range focuses on solutions for the hotel and food service industries. Caravita is the expert here, with its individual parasols and sun sails which are perfectly adapted to the look, as well as the size and shape of the outdoor space.

Diverse shapes, designs and techniques

Under the management of Gunther Wettenengel and Markus Roth, around 55 employees work at Caravita today in their distribution centre in Gaimersheim, near Ingolstadt, as well as in the production site near Trencin in Slovakia. The portfolio is comprised of central mast parasols, cantilever parasols, giant parasols and sun sails. All Selection line products are individually made to measure in line with the manufacturing concept, so that different customer needs can be fulfilled. You can choose from the Samara, Supremo, Amalfi, Big Ben and Belvedere parasols, as well as various sun sail models. The sturdy designs in high-grade aluminium and stainless steel guarantee robustness, wind stability and longevity, while refined mechanisms make the sun shading solutions convenient and easy to use. The collaborative fabric collection from Caravita and Warema has been on the market since 2018, so that both brands’ individual shading solutions can be harmoniously combined in outdoor areas.

In use worldwide

Caravita’s premium products can be found on every continent: Europe, Africa, Asia, North and South America and even Australia. The main markets are Germany, France, Austria and Spain. Applications vary from the hotel and food service industries, as well as public institutions such as swimming pools, nursery schools and retirement homes, to use in private gardens and on balconies. Caravita products are sold by specialist retailers.

Born from a creative idea

Caravita was created as a side business of the company founder, as Michael Caravita was originally a fruit and vegetable trader. Alongside this, he offered Italian parasols to his colleagues, which, with their bright colour schemes, did not necessarily suit the tastes of German traders. Caravita therefore founded his own sun shading system business in 1993 and produced parasols in line with his high quality standards and the needs of his customers. In 2017, Michael retired from the business, which has grown continuously. Since then, Caravita has been a brand of the WAREMA Group.

Tailor-made variety – Parasols from Caravita

High-grade shading for private gardens and outdoor food service

With parasols and sun sails from Caravita, you can create sun-shaded favourite spots on patios, in gardens and on balconies. Whether in private or commercial areas, Caravita produces diverse and innovative sun shading solutions which satisfy the highest requirements. With functional operation and equipped with numerous extras, the products easily satisfy individual needs. Thanks to countless possibilities for personalised shape and colour design, the factory-produced parasols match the aesthetics of every architecture and design style.

Belvedere cantilever parasol – Opens in seconds

The Belvedere cantilever parasol opens in seconds using the unique Easy-Flap folding technology developed by Caravita: simply push the lever down and the canopy opens. When closed, it saves space just like a central mast parasol.

Solid aluminium hubs, high-grade cables and stainless steel fittings make the Belvedere stable and ensure that the Easy-Flap mechanism continues to work as reliably as on the first day, even after many years of use. The innovative stainless steel parasol base enables the parasol to be conveniently turned by 360 degrees. This function is unlocked by pressing the pedal with your foot. This means that shading can always be directed to where it is needed.

Amalfi cantilever parasol – Floating design

The Amalfi is a cantilever parasol with a seemingly weightless canopy. It offers users maximum space and the greatest flexibility. Its smooth and self-locking crank winch holds the parasol in the desired position. Additionally, it can be turned around its entire axis with an optional rotary base so that the shading can be moved precisely to the right place depending on the position of the sun. After closing, the parasol can be turned to the side to save space. The strong aluminium mast made from four-millimetre-thick aluminium profile provides stability.

The Amalfi model is particularly versatile in its application possibilities. The galvanised wall bracket can be supplied powder-coated in over 200 RAL colours and the mast can also be specially tailored to the project. A further practical solution for the food service industry is the Amalfi Duo or the Amalfi Quadro, which hold two or four canopies respectively on a single mast. Users can open these independently of one another depending on requirements. The Amalfi is a modern classic with a special twist.

Supremo parasol – Light and shade in balance

The Supremo parasol has a sophisticated sliding mechanism, the Easy-Lift-Balance system. This allows the parasol to open itself halfway after it is unlocked and can be slid into the fully open position with just one movement. Opening the Supremo is significantly easier and quicker than with many other parasols. This even applies to the large models with a diameter of up to five meters, which are used primarily in the food service industry. With the double hubs made from solid aluminium and the struts which are reinforced along their entire length, the Supremo scores points with its particular robustness and wind stability. Another highlight: the Supremo closes above table height. Tables, chairs and decorations can simply be left where they are when the parasol is closed. This is enabled by the integrated telescopic mechanism that raises the mast when closing the parasol.

Big Ben giant parasol – A majestic appearance

When it comes to shading large areas, the Big Ben is the perfect all-rounder. With its sturdy, wind tunnel-tested construction, the diverse shapes and over 50 sizes, it offers the ideal solution, especially for outdoor food service and hotel patios. Spans of up to seven meters in diameter are possible and can be opened effortlessly thanks to the stainless steel crank. The parasol can be conveniently opened and closed with a motor via a remote control and the integrated telescopic system completes the range of great additional functions.

The Big Ben Freestyle model can also be individually tailored to every situation and even looks good in a diamond or star shape. If desired, the Big Ben can be supplied with the integrated Elegance light system, whose LEDs can be dimmed by remote control depending on the mood. Detachable radiant heaters also provide pleasant warmth in the evenings and during the colder months. Additional rain gutters and side panels provide reliable weather protection.

Samara parasol – One for all

The Samara parasol can be opened and closed with a minimal amount of force, meaning it is even easy to operate for children and older people. The mechanism even works very simply in the largest models thanks to the detachable stainless steel crank. The Samara combines its uncomplicated operation with a stylish, visually light design and a practical telescopic system which raises the mast when closing the parasol. This means tables, chairs, place settings and decorations can simply be left where they are when the parasol is closed.

Shade with ease all year round

The robust All Season sun sail offers clear advantages for the food service industry

As a shading system, the All Season sun sails from Caravita combine a light appearance with high efficiency and resistance. They remain taut between the masts the whole year round, as wind and rain do not affect the sails. They can therefore be set up and dismantled with minimal effort and protect reliably against UV radiation.

The All Season sun sails are made to measure for individual needs. Whether it be a cafe terrace, the play area of an outdoor eatery, poolside loungers or a restaurant garden that needs to be shaded, Caravita creates suitable sun sails for every situation. Even unusual shapes or large sails of up to seven meters in lateral length can be easily implemented.

In wind and weather

A particular advantage of the All Season sun sails for the food service industry is that they are suitable for year-round installation. This means that employees do not need to take the sun sails down in rainy or stormy weather. Its water and wind-permeable HPDE fabric does not become damaged, even in bad weather, but does filter out 98 percent of UV radiation when it is sunny. The robust construction with double-reinforced corners, welded fabric webs and stainless steel cables running through the hem easily withstands heavier loads. A solid stainless steel three-way turnbuckle functions as a corner fixing. The stainless steel or steel masts are cemented into the ground and therefore stand steady throughout the year.

The All Season sails are designed for each project based on the fixing points and dimensions. Caravita also offers practical support in the form of professional statics and shading calculations. With 16 different colours which can be selected to match furniture, facades or other sun shading products, All Season sun sails combine a floating aesthetic design with the highest functionality. The perfect solution for those who love something special.

Big Ben – Majestic and individual

An elegant giant parasol for the hotel and food service industries

Big Ben is one of the most popular products from sun shading specialists Caravita. With its elegant appearance, the parasol creates an inviting, cosy atmosphere, whether as a daytime shading system or a comforting canopy in the evening. The Big Ben Freestyle is individual and therefore the ideal solution for every kind of outdoor food service and is adapted to on-site dimensional and shape requirements.

Whether on the terrace of a street cafe or in the pool area of an exclusive hotel complex, the Big Ben parasol from Caravita satisfies all requirements. It has a sturdy, wind tunnel-tested aluminium frame and is available in many different shapes and over 50 sizes. Thanks to the individual production technique, the Big Ben Freestyle canopy can be precisely tailored to every situation, even in a diamond or a star shape. In urban areas, notches can also be made for exposed brickwork. In contrast, the canopy covers large open spaces with a span of up to seven meters. That means space for up to eight cafe tables. The Big Ben Freestyle is not only variable in shape and size. More than 140 fabric designs and over 200 frame colours are available to choose from. The Big Ben Freestyle also won over the judging panel for the Plus X Award 2018/19 with its variety and flexibility. It was honoured in the categories of “Design” and “High Quality”, which is reflected in Caravita’s five-year long-term warranty and functionality.

Multifunctional at any time of day

For the most operating comfort possible, the Big Ben is also available with a motor. In two minutes, several parasols can be conveniently opened and closed at the same time with a single remote control. Should the parasol be closed again spontaneously, plates and table decoration can simply stay in place, because the integrated telescopic system allows the parasol to increase in height when closing. Big Ben provides a cosy atmosphere under its canopy, offering something extra in the Caravita range, as the parasol creates special moments for guests after dark. The optional Elegance light system, unobtrusively integrated into the struts, means evenings never have to end. The LEDS are dimmed by remote control so that you can enjoy pleasant ambient lighting. Detachable radiant heaters also provide cosy warmth late in the year. In conjunction with rain gutters and side panels, individualised weather protection can be achieved.

Much more than a parasol base

The multicube gabions are an original idea, designed to create additional space outside, which create a relaxed and informal mood as both parasol bases and seating. The sturdy steel baskets with freely selectable fillings – such as stones, wood or empty bottles – and a comfortable wood covering are ideal for advertising and can be easily moved with a pallet truck. This allows outdoor areas to be quickly reconfigured for events.

Feel-good outdoor dining: attractively designed and shaded

More flexibility with multicube gabions from Caravita

There can never be enough uncomplicated seating options in outdoor gastronomy. The outdoor living trend is continuing and any additional space is gladly used by guests. Especially when it’s as appealing as Caravita’s multicube gabions, which create a relaxed atmosphere when used as parasol bases and seating.

The multicubes were specially designed for the food service industry. They serve as sturdy, flexible bases for giant parasols like the Big Ben, which provides plenty of shade with a span of up to seven metres. The sturdy steel baskets with freely selectable fillings and a comfortable wood covering are a practical alternative to conventional parasol bases with flagstones which can easily become a tripping hazard for guests and service personnel in everyday service. The multicubes, used as bar tables or seating, invite you to linger in a relaxed atmosphere. They offer unusual shady spots in a particularly cosy and informal atmosphere and are therefore highly sought-after by guests.

With various sizes and uses, the multicubes from Caravita facilitate the flexible configuration of outdoor areas, which can be adapted to current requirements at any time. Thanks to a clever lifting device for pallet trucks, restaurateurs can easily change their location and therefore the locations of their parasols without expert help, unlike with installed ground sleeves. This means that patios can be transformed easily for events or private functions, for example, and can be returned to their original positions the next day.

Individually adjusted to the food service concept

There are hardly any visual food service concepts that don’t suit multicubes. The basket filling is tailored to the special requirements and the desired look: natural stones are just as much of an option as rustic logs or fine wine bottles. Different variants are also available for the wood coverings and even for the basket coating in various RAL colours. Further adjustments allow the Freestyle Multicubes to be used as barstools with foot rails, benches with backrests, bar tables or corner solutions.

And last but not least, the multicubes can also be equipped with technology, therefore creating additional usage possibilities. Additional features such as LED lights, Bluetooth speakers, WLAN hotspots and power sockets as charging stations make the gabions an indispensable addition for the outdoor food service industry. They are vital for creating comfort and ambience outside and for the well-being of guests.

Multicubes at “The Italian”, Recklinghausen

The outdoor dining area of the Austrian franchise, The Italian, in Recklinghausen also relies on the distinct look of the multicubes and the high-grade Big Ben parasols. Surrounded by attractive timbered houses, eight parasols measuring five by five meters each, provide shade for around 200 square meters of seating space in the marketplace. The naturally coloured acrylic fabric with branded valances elegantly fit into the colour scheme of the system gastronomy. They fit in perfectly with the picturesque surroundings at the same time. The parasol bases with four baskets for sitting and matching outdoor furniture in the form of benches are filled with light quarrystone in a matching colour and are very well-received by guests. One of the most important arguments in favour of the multicubes was the special mechanism with which the stackable gabions, compatible with pallet trucks, can be easily transported. This means that the marketplace can be cleared in a short period of time for town events.

The multicubes can be easily retrofitted to Caravita parasols. They are customised as needed in terms of both size and volume in order to meet individual requirements.

Sun sail accessories

Carabiner clips

Length 50 mm | Material thickness 5 mm | Breaking load 570 kg
Length 60 mm | Material thickness 6 mm | Breaking load 670 kg

Carabiner hooksserve to attach the sail to rings and hooks.

Turnbuckle

Length 150-220 mm | Breaking load 1200 kg
Length 220-300 mm | Breaking load 3100 kg
Ends with welded forks and bolt locking
Can be used without intermediate hooks

Sun sail fabrics will sag after a long period of time. To maintain optimal fabric tension, we recommend always using a turnbuckle. Twist the outer fork of the turnbuckle in or out to adjust its length. This maintains the tension of the fabric. Don’t forget to reduce the sail size in accordance with the length of the turnbuckle and maintain the correct tensile direction.

Eyebolts and ring nuts

Eyebolts are inserted into the mast and secured with a nut on the other side.

Ring nuts can be attached to the mast in two different ways:

Version 1: The ring nut is held in place by a screw inserted horizontally through the mast. It is secured with screw glue or toothed washers. Choose a screw in a suitable length for your mast.

Version 2: This is only possible on the upper end of the mast. Here, the bolt is inserted into the tube wall from inside the mast and is fastened with the ring nut. For assembly, the mast cap must be removed.

Stainless steel cable

Ø 4 mm | 6 mm

Ends with either threads or Niro thimbles

Larger distances must often be bridged to reach a suitable fixing point for your sun sail. A steel cable or a chain may be of use here. Note, however, that your sail will tend to swing in stronger winds, which cannot be avoided with increased tension. For further assistance or if you have other questions, please contact your specialist dealer or our customer service team.

Pulley system

Stainless steel block with 1 wheel | with 2 wheels

With a pulley, a hoisting system can be built easily (see illustration), with which all sails can be quickly and easily attached, even to high masts. The upper wheel is connected to the eyebolt here (no carabiner hook is required). More wheel blocks can be attached to the pulley to make hoisting more convenient. The lower cable end can be tied down to a cable cleat. Suitable padded cables (Ø 6 mm) are available in different lengths.

Shackle

Stainless steel | Different shapes

Shackles are a practical and versatile alternative to carabiner hooks. With shackles, you can attach your sun sail to masts, wall holders and other fixing points.

Wall brackets

Stainless steel | Material thickness 5 mm | Drilled holes 12 mm

Wall brackets can be attached to building walls, corners and in angles, in order to create a safely anchored fixing point for your sun sail.

Weather protection

With CARAVITA, you can enjoy time outdoors even in rainy weather, on cold days and late at night. CARAVITA offers many options to create your individually customised weather protection solution:

Keep your guests dry
Moderate to high rain protection can be achieved by choosing the right fabric. For private use, acrylic awning fabric is usually sufficient. Restaurant owners often opt for the more dense All Weather or Ferrari Precontraint 302. Drainage gutters can close the gaps between different parasols. Side panels protect against drafts and lateral rainfall.

Create a warm oasis
Detachable infrared radiant heaters can be easily mounted on your parasol. The Big Ben parasol can be equipped with an integrated heating system to provide a professional solution, whereby the cables run safely and discreetly inside the parasol.

Turn night into day
Big Ben parasol lighting creates a stylish ambiance on your terrace. Professionals opt for the Big Ben parasol with integrated Elegance lighting system including dimmer and remote control.

Details of the individual options can be found on the following pages:

Available in RAL 9016 traffic white, RAL 7016 anthracite grey and anodised silver, or in all RAL Classic colours at an extra cost. The masts are reinforced with an internal zinc-coated steel pole for increased load capacity.

In the case of very long masts and very high loads, it can not be ruled out that the pole may bend. This can be prevented through sloped, backward tilted installation and potentially additional counter-tension with a steel cable.

Ground anchor

Please note: aluminium masts are not suitable for setting directly in concrete.

The Europa ground sleeve is required for anchoring. The sleeve consists of two parts, which are connected via a bayonet lock. The lower half of the sleeve is cemented into the ground, so that it is sealed off at ground level. If necessary, the upper half is simply inserted into the bottom half and secured with a bolt. Once the ground sleeve is assembled, the aluminium mast can be inserted and secured with knurled screws.

If the sun sail is not required, the mast and the upper part of the sleeve can be removed. The bottom part is sealed off level with the ground, because the practical sealing cap is held closed with a spring.

The Europa ground sleeve is available in K and L versions:

Short version K (Length of bottom part 25 cm, illustration on left):

The standard solution for normal concrete foundations.

Long version K (Length of bottom part 50 cm, illustration on right):

A special solution for paved ground or other special cases in which soft earth, sand or air between the foundation and the ground must be bridged.

Ground anchor

These stainless steel masts can be anchored in the ground in two ways. Please indicate the version you’d like when ordering, so we can prepare your mast according to the specifications:

Version 1 – with Europa U ground sleeve:

The use of a ground sleeve allows the mast to be removed if necessary. The ground sleeve is cemented into the ground, the stainless steel mast is inserted and is secured with a bayonet lock and steel bolts.

The Europa U ground sleeve is available in K and L versions:

Short version KU – Length of bottom part 25 cm:

The standard solution for normal concrete foundations.

Long version LU – Length of bottom part 50 cm:

A special solution for paved ground or other special cases in which soft earth, sand or air between the foundation and the ground must be bridged.

Version 2 – set directly in concrete:

Instead of using a ground sleeve, the stainless steel mast can also be directly cemented into the ground.

Cleaning tips for parasols and sun sails

How to clean and care for your parasol fabric

A parasol that is used all year round is exposed to the weather and the soiling that comes with the seasons. Over time, a layer of dirt can form on the surface of the canopy, which can be burnt into the coating permanently by solar radiation. In addition, dirt can penetrate the mechanism and damage movable parts. It is therefore important that you clean and maintain your sun shading system regularly in order to protect the high-grade materials. This will extend the life of your parasol and keep it looking like new.

Special cleaning agents are often not necessary at all; what is more important is regular maintenance. Special cleaning agents can help to remove tough staining on metal or plastic surfaces. You should avoid vigorous scrubbing of the parasol fabric, as well as machine washing. It is best to use a soft sponge and a gentle cleaning solution made up of mild detergent and water. Alternatively, you can also use a high-grade cleaning glove made of special microfibre material. The glove is suitable for both wet and dry cleaning and can be cleaned itself in a normal washing machine cycle.

General cleaning tips for your parasol

  • Soiling is best removed through dry brushing at regular intervals
  • Small stains can be treated with lukewarm water and a soft brush
  • To treat stubborn stains, hand wash with a conventional mild detergent, rinse well with running water, leave to dry and treat with a waterproofing agent.
  • Liquid cleaning agents of many types are available from specialist retailers; always follow the instructions for use carefully
  • Only wash the parasol fabric with cold water, never with warm or hot water, and never in the washing machine! Acrylic fabrics can shrink even at low temperatures.

How to replace your parasol fabric

Dirty or damaged fabric is no reason to replace the entire parasol. We will show you how you can easily remove the fabric on your CARAVITA parasol, so that you can have it cleaned, repaired or replaced with new fabric.

1) Unscrew the finial top.

2) Open the parasol halfway.

3) Remove the fabric from the parasol by loosening the screws at the ends of the struts with an electric screwdriver.

4) Remove the fabric from your parasol.

5) Mount the new, cleaned or repaired fabric by performing steps 1 to 4 in reverse.

6) Carefully open the parasol and check that the parasol fabric is correctly aligned.

Note: If the parasol cannot be opened easily, do not use excessive force! Look for the fault that is obstructing the mechanism. If you are unable to find the source of the fault, please get in touch with your specialist dealer or call the Caravita Hotline.
